A message from Juan and Sandra Alegre at Calvary Chapel Cajabamba in Peru:
Just in the last month or so, COVID-19 has really begun plaguing Cajabamba, and we have started to see a huge need for medical equipment and medicine. Doctors, nurses, and government officials are worried about our lack of resources: containers of oxygen, limited hospital beds, not enough ambulances to reach those further away & outside of the main city, and very little medicine. Due to this medical resource shortage, we were having to send those severe cases to Cajamarca or Trujillo, two bigger cities with the resources to handle them. But now, they have told us that they can no longer care for those from surrounding areas, because they no longer have the space. So now, we are attempting to treat these cases as best we can with no resources. We don’t want to get to the point to where people are dying out on the streets because we don’t have enough beds or enough oxygen.
To take action, Cajabamba gathered together all the different local authorities & departments—the medical department, the police force, the justice department, the municipal, the general public—and they have included Calvary Chapel Cajabamba. During our first meeting, it was revealed that the plan to relieve this need is to build an oxygen plant in the Cajabamba area so that the hospital can serve local Covid patients as well as those in surrounding areas. So, all the respective authorities and departments have the responsibility of raising funds, whether it be monetarily or materially, for the oxygen plant as well as the hospital’s needs. We as Calvary Chapel Cajabamba have offered our services as well. And that is why we are asking our prayer warriors to pray. Most importantly, we need prayer because Cajabamba is not prepared for a pandemic like this one. But we believe that God has His eye on His people here and will provide us with what we need. We are also asking, if God puts it on your heart, to give. As I mentioned earlier, we are planning to buy an oxygen plant so that we can make the hospital accessible to Covid patients. We are trying to raise $220,000. All we ask is that you help out our beautiful Cajabamba with however much God places on your heart. You can donate to the church’s account, #4500, through the Shepherd's Staff Ministries website, or by clicking here.
We are all joining together to fight for our people here in Cajabamba, but we know how much you guys wouldn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to be a part of it as well! So, thank you! Thank you for your prayers and support!
